What Qualification Do I Need To PAT Test?
Unlike electrical installation testing and inspection, there is no legal requirement for PAT Testers to have a formal qualification, such as City & Guilds.
The IEE Code Of Practice states 'The test operative should be competent to inspect and test an item of equipment and, based on the results and upon the conditions in which it is being used, state that the equipment is safe or otherwise for continued use. Training & experience will both be necessary'.
On completion of our course, you will be issued with a certificate, which will prove that you have had the required training to carry out PAT testing in accordance with the IEE requirements.
"Throughout the practical session you are not just testing for a pass or fail, but also understanding what the readings mean. Director Peter O'Hara turns in a masterful performance, and is obviously well versed in his subject, the result of many years of experience.... "

What Does The Course Cover?
The morning session of the PAT Training Course covers the following key points:
- Why the need to PAT test (Electricity at work regulations, 1989)
- A risk based approach
- What appliances should be tested
- Calculating frequency of test & inspection
- What tests need to be carried out on the appliances, and the test process
- How to interpret the results from your PAT
- Maintaining accurate records
In the afternoon there is a practical session, carried out under supervision of the trainer, where you will PAT test various appliances, and put into practice the knowledge gained in the morning to determine a Pass or Fail.
Training delegates can also bring along their own PAT testing equipment to use on the course, and have any questions regarding the use of the tester answered. We also offer a discount for calibrating any item of electrical test equipment bought along on the day.
The training course is carried out at our premises in Watford. Courses start at 9.30am and finish at 3.30pm. Lunch and refreshments are provided, and we also have FREE parking on site.
At the end of the course there is a multiple choice test, designed to ensure you have taken in the key points, and every delegate is then issued with a copy of the IEE Code Of Practice and a certificate of competent completion of the training course.
Because we understand that only so much can be learnt in one day, we also offer all training delegates free technical support after the course is completed. This means that you can contact any of our technical staff during normal working hours if you have any queries when PAT testing.
