The Martindale FL30 is a fast and easy way of testing gas filled lamps, including either high or low frequency lamps. The FL30 ionizes the gas filled lamp with a high frequency voltage at approximately 3kV. A key feature of this product is the telescopic antenna attachment, which allow for testing of fluorescent and neon tubes in-situ, without the need for using ladders or platforms. This is an ideal and extremely cost effective tool for any lighting maintenance engineer, allowing lamps to be tested even in hard to reach areas.
The Martindale FL30 will test the following gas filled lamps:
Fluorescent
Low Pressure Sodium (SOX)
High Pressure Sodium (SON)
Neon Lamps & Tubes
Mercury Vapour
Metal Halogen
Testing Compact Fluorescent Lamps with the FL30
The 2pin / 4pin lamps fitted in compact fluorescent fittings (2D, PL etc) can be tested in the same way as standard fluorescent tubes as the control gear is housed in the light fitting. The compact fluorescent lamps which are fitted in standard, domestic style fittings incorporate the starting gear in the lamp body itself. This means that the testing of this type of compact fluorescent will be slightly different. By touching the lamp or the body of the cap will prove that the lamp has sufficient gas. To prove that the starting gear is working, the FL30 probe must make contact with the pins/cap end and you will see the lamp pulsing. If the lamp illuminates but does not pulse, the lamp has failed and should be discarded.
