The FLIR E40 Mark II model greatly improves on its predecessor. This model features a better user-interface, easier menu navigation and FLIR's unique MSX image enhancement. With this excellent new feature, you see the detail of the digital image overlaid onto the thermal image, making location of faults and image analysis even easier than before.

The E40 is an ideal camera for those carrying out general electrical surveys. It has a thermal resolution of 160 x 120 pixels, along with full control over the camera settings, thermal tuning, manual focus and 2 Li-Ion batteries. FLIR Tools software is included as standard, giving you the ability to download, analyse images and produce a basic report.

    Simple Menu Navigation
A redesign of the casing means there are less buttons to press when accessing the functions of the camera. In addition, the user menu is a lot more intuitive, making it easy to select measurement tools, change the camera settings and colour palettes, switch between image modes and access the saved images. The center navigation button has also been improved as a single directional button, as opposed to the old style with four individual directional buttons.

    MSX Enhancement
Previously only available on more expensive camera models, the FLIR MSX image enhancement now comes as standard with all their cameras. With this extra detail, you see more in your thermal image, making fault diagnosis easier. This feature is especially useful with lower resolution cameras, where the thermal image can become quite pixelated.

    Auto Image Orientation
Another unique feature of this camera is the auto-image rotation. If you turn the camera 90°, it will change the image orientation on-screen to portrait. The image is also tagged automatically in the software, so when downloaded to a PC the orientation is correct.

    FLIR EXX Series Image Orientation

    Interchangeable Lenses
The E40 comes with a 24° field of view lens as standard. For applications that require a wider field of view, or optical zoom, additional lenses can be purchased.

    Wireless Communication
As with the previous model, the new E40 maintains the Bluetooth and Wireless connectivity. A Bluetooth headset can be connected for recording voice annotation and the Extech 845 clamp meter can also transmit current and voltage readings to the thermal camera via Bluetooth.

Wireless connectivity enables connection to iPAD and Android tablets and used in conjunction with the free FLIR Tools Viewer software, for remote control of the camera, or quick download of images to email to a client.

    Radiometric Images & Video Streaming
The camera stores up to 1000 radiometric thermal images on the included SD card. Radiometric images mean you get temperature information for each pixel on the image, giving you greater accuracy. In addition, the E40 will also stream radiometric video to the FLIR Tools+ software. Radiometric videos allow you to add temperature measurement tools to carry out trend analysis over a period of time.

    Multiple Image Capture
Another unique feature of the FLIR E40 Mk II is multiple image capture. Everytime you save a thermal image, the camera will store the image in all four formats including full thermal, full digital, picture-in-picture & MSX. Once downloaded to the software, all four images will be available to carry out post analysis and include in your report.

Which Camera Is Right For You?
With so many thermal cameras available, ranging from £800 to £20,000+, how do you know which camera you should choose? Consider the application you will be using the camera for and also whether you are using it as an in-house engineer, or if you are offering this as a contracted service. Ensuring you buy the right resolution camera is key, because you cannot upgrade this, you have to buy a new camera.

At Instrotech, we won't just sell you a camera, our technical experts will help you choose the right camera for your application. In addition, we also run a selection of approved one day thermography training courses covering both electrical and building applications.
