Safety is paramount when it comes to working on electrical systems and the requirement to prove dead is extremely important. The Fluke T90 is a simple way of carrying out this test in a safe manner.
Complying fully with the GS38 regulations, the T90 is also CAT II & CAT III safety rated. It has a clear LED display, with voltage ranges from 12V to 690V AC / DC and a low current draw of 1.15mA at 230V.
Voltage indication is both visual and audible, making it ideal for use in poorly lit or noisy environments.
A number of other safety features have also been included with the T90, such as a battery warning light and two layers of insulation on the test leads. The second inner-layer, is in a contrasting colour, so you know if the leads have been damaged and the tester should be replaced. In the interests of safety, the T90 will still show voltage even if the batteries are fully discharged (>50V AC or >120C DC).
The recommendation for the use of two pole voltage indicators to prove dead is that they are checked against a proving unit before and after use to ensure the tester is working correctly and that all LEDs are lighting properly. Whilst Fluke do not currently offer a proving unit, the Martindale PD690 is compatible and would ensure you are fully meeting the requirements.
