The Seaward SDR35 is a HV (high voltage) safe discharge rod for systems operating up to 35kV.
When carrying out high voltage insulation resistance testing of cables, a residue current can be present (capacitance) after the test is completed. If this is not discharged in a safe and controlled manner, the residual charge in the cable can remain and cause serious injury or death.
The SDR35 is designed to provide a solution to this.
A 5 metre length of green / yellow earth wire (10mm²) connects to the hook near the handle and is then fixed to a suitable grounding point. The main hook can then be connected to the cable to discharge, safely taking the residual current away within 5 seconds.
Care must be taken to ensure the safety earth connection is made before making contact with the cable.
Please note, the SDR35 must not be used on energised AC conductors.
