New from Fluke is this innovative infrared thermometer, that combines a visual camera and basic thermal detector to show where hotspots are on a system.

With the combination of a digital camera and a basic thermal detector, the VT02 allows you to see where the hotspot is, as well as get a temperature reading. This is an ideal tool where you want to know where possible problems may be, but don’t have the budget to purchase a full thermal imaging camera.

What does it do?

Most infrared thermometers work by giving a single temperature reading for a spot area. As you move further from the point you are measuring, the spot measurement size increases, this makes it harder to get an accurate temperature measurement at distance.

With the VT02, you get a visual image, temperature spot measurement and infrared heat map all combined into one, making location of potential issues easier and giving you a much more accurate temperature reading.

Is the VT02 a Thermal Imaging Camera?

In short, no. Whilst it does incorporate an infrared detector, the pixel size is only 15 x 15, which is not enough to get any sort of detail in terms of thermography. This is an IR thermometer with extra features that help you make a quick inspection. It has been designed for users who only need a quick indication of problems, or where the application does not require the full features of a thermal camera.

For anyone carrying out thermography inspections, a dedicated thermal imaging camera should be used.

What are the applications?

The VT02 has been designed for industrial and commercial use. Maintenance engineers who want to inspect plant and machinery such as motors, switch panels, distribution boards and cables etc.

Do I need any Specialist Training?

The simplistic design of this product means no specialist training is required. It has a fixed focus system and image capture is done with the press of a trigger. A basic understanding of material emissivity is all that would be required, however an emissivity table is included with the product and more are available online.

What’s in the box

The VT02 is supplied with a micro SD card, 4 x AA batteries, instruction manual, SmartView reporting software and a hard carry case. This complete kit is available for only £395.00 + VAT and you can get yours online today.
