The Health & Safety executive recommends the use of a proving unit when using any voltage indicator or test lamp to prove a circuit is dead. In order to ensure you are using the right products, you can now purchase the Drummond MTL20 with the approved Martindale PD440 proving unit, all of which are housed in a carry case.

The unique feature of the new Drummond MTL20 test lamp are the two test buttons that enable the unit to draw a higher current, thus eliminating false readings from ghost voltages. In order to prevent this being done accidently, both buttons must be depressed to activate this feature.

The Drummond MTL20 gives a voltage indication from 50 - 500V AC / DC. Meeting the recommendations of the Health & Safety Executive guidance notes (GS38) the robust design also complying with BS EN 61243-3 and BS EN 61010, CAT III 1000V and CAT IV 600V.

In order to ensure user safery, both the lamp housing and the probe have a finger shield with an insulated probe tip that only exposes 4mm of metal. In addition a dual layer double insulated cable, with white inner insulation, ensures that any damage or abrasion that might compromise the user's safety is clearly visible. The cable is also resistant against heat and oil. To enable use in most circumstances, a right angled probe tip is suppled in addition to the two straight tips. For maximum ease of use the right angled probes can be rotated through 90, 180 and 270 degrees.

The unique feature of this new Drummond test lamp is the four distinctive bands of illumination combined with 360° viewing angle, providing indication of voltages above 50, 100, 200 & 400 volts, even in bright sunlight. This allows for accurate identification of potentially lethal voltages at 50V and enables the user to distinguish between 110V, 230V and phase to phase voltages in a 3 phase system.
