New from Fluke is the VT02 visual IR thermometer. An innovation that combines a standard infrared thermometer with a thermal detector, giving you the ability to view hotspots on a system, similar to the way in which a thermal imaging camera works.
Whilst this is not a thermal imaging camera, the VT02 does feature a 15 x 15 pixel thermal detector. This feature enables you to view a digital image of the object and shows up any hotspots. With a standard infrared thermometer, you would need to take multiple measurements to get a good reading. The benefit of the VT02 means you can see instantly where the hotspots are and investigate further.
This product is most suited to maintenance applications, where a quick measurement is needed to locate any possible problems. SmartView software is supplied which allows you to carry out post analysis of the image and produce a report with recommendations for remedial works or further investigation. If you are looking to carry out a full thermographic survey, then you should use a proper thermal imaging camera.
The Fluke VT02 is designed to meet the needs of users who require more than just a spot temperature reading, but cannot justify the cost of buying a full thermal imaging camera. In an application where only an indication is required, this product is the ideal solution.
